Word 1: Right View

I can read words but I have trouble reading them when I don’t use them. This is pronounced “shokan”

When I was researching words to carve, I chose the two-character word “Shokan.”

It means to see through to the essence of things with pure eyes, to feel clearly.

It’s an important thing, and it’s a word that calls into question the essence, but I felt that no one has been able to do this before.

It’s a Buddhist phrase, but I feel like it’s a state that is difficult for those who belong to the human world to reach.

After writing many sheets of it, I felt that even more ^^;

Calligraphy is not just about “writing characters”, but also about thinking about and examining the meaning of the characters, their significance as words, and being able to take the time to face words that would normally pass by in an instant,
I think that’s the best part of it.

This time, I chose the character “Shokan” and thought about how to turn it into a piece of art,
which gave me the time to get in touch with this feeling that tends to be overlooked when you’re busy practicing for assignments and chasing deadlines.

And when I think about the meaning of “Shokan,”
I want to seek out its meaning,
while being aware that while I’m in this world, I will never be able to reach it, even if I aspire to it.
